Our Mission…

…is to restore the American chestnut to our landscape. Although the species vanished within a single human lifetime, bringing it back will take the commitment of many generations. This effort is only possible through the dedication of volunteers, technicians, students, and scientists working together.

American Chestnut Restoration, Inc. has advocated research, collaboration, and engagement since 1988

Forging Partnerships

In collaboration with the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), a blight-tolerant American chestnut tree is currently under federal regulatory review.

Support

We provide financial support to maintain a research orchard through ESF.

We have also distributed seeds to thousands of members to help advance restoration efforts.

Provide Engagement

Our biannual newsletter, The Bur, keeps all members up to date on the latest news and developments.

At the annual membership meeting, members come together to hear regulatory and scientific updates while celebrating and sharing chestnuts.

Research and Development

We provide critical funding to the American Chestnut Research & Restoration Project at ESF.

We establish wild-sourced “mother” trees to ensure the continued preservation of genetic diversity.
